Could it be that older women are becoming  the new faces of beauty? Absolutely. After years of living in a culture where being over 50 meant being invisible, things are changing in a very real way. I, for one, am inspired by this.

The cosmetic company NARS, announced recently that 68-year-old British actress Charlotte Rampling would be their new face of beauty and will appear in a black-and-white campaign to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary in September.

Marc Jacobs followed suit with the announcement that 64-year-old American Horror Story actress Jessica Lange would be the new face of Marc Jacobs Beauty.

Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer ’14 campaign stars a range of women, including 70-year-old Catherine Deneuve and the Olsen sisters, through their fashion line, The Row, have chosen Linda Rodin to be their model and represent their brand.

We make up a large part of the market, so why not feature women who represent that for us? I am part of a theatre company (Rogue Machine Theatre) and the age range is anywhere from 15 to 85 among the company members. I never feel too old. I am constantly inspired by younger people. I have never understood the need to be separate.

I love that older women are being seen and marketed as beautiful, sexy, and desirable. I want to feel like that. What I don’t want is to go to the play Menopause, the Musical with my girlfriends, and afterwards, share funny stories about our dry vaginas.

I’d rather be wearing my Agent Provocateur stockings, a great dress, drinking a nice Cabernet, and thinking about sex. I want to experience my age in the best way possible. I believe that there is a depth and richness there that is sublime.

When artist Beatrice Wood, age 105,  was asked the secret of her longevity, she would simply say “art books, chocolates and young men”.

That’s what I’m talking about.
